Dear new friend,
This is a very sincere letter to you and your friends in this tragic time of need. I’m in the sixth-grade. I honestly don’t use words like sincere and tragic but I don’t know other ways to describe how I feel. I know this must be a hard time for you that just shows how strong you are for hanging in there. And I really hope you continue to show your strength. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. And I really do hope the best for you.
Sincerely, Jeffrey

I can’t imagine how you must have been feeling over the past two months. Your home has been destroyed, and you have to worry about whether or not your food has radiation poisoning. Just don’t give up, ‘cause one day you’ll be able to stop worrying, so just hold on until then.
Edison, 6th grade, 12

It’s hard for me to start writing this because I can’t imagine how you feel. I think it’s amazing and crazy that somebody my age could survive so much tragedy and not drown themselves in self-pity. Everyone in my school is thinking about you, and if you’ve made it this far, you can make it to the end and further. I hope this is literally the storm before the calm.
Sincerely, Chloe, 12, grade 7.

Dear children of Japan,
I am very sorry for the tragedy that happened in Japan. I can imagine how it feels when your country is in really bad shape. I think you feel really scared and worried. I hope Japan can rebuild your homes and school. I also hope your loved ones are okay too. Also I know all the hard work you’ve been through. When I first heard it on the news I was in shock. I knew an earthquake or tsunami wouldn’t be good. I send good wishes to the children of Japan.
Love, Shanda, 7th grade, age 13

I couldn’t ever imagine what you must be going through right now. I don’t know you and you don’t know me but you have no idea how much I feel for you. You went through the worst possible thing and I am so proud of you for sticking it out. We are all thinking about you. I know this may sound cheesy but don’t loose hope. We love you and we are constantly thinking of you and cheering you on. I can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things that you and your country accomplish. Stay safe and don’t loose hope there is a light at the end of even the darkest tunnels.
